Team 1 - Lesson 2 Reflection

Team 1 -  Lesson 2 Reflection

As we look back on Lesson 1, we are pleased with our efforts and the results of them.  Lesson 1 in this version of ETC647 provides well referenced content through a blended media design and a relevant mix of colleague and expert contributions.  We all agreed that it was best to be the first group to prepare a class lesson and handle the discussion board moderation.  Our goal was to set the bar high and we believe we have accomplished that.

We have moved on to our lesson 3 project in concert with our lesson 2 tasks and assignments.  We also agree that we are beginning to find a groove in ETC647 that supports our expectations and pace.  We continue to meet every week in Elluminate to discuss the course and our task, assignments and projects.  I have included our meeting notes from last night’s meeting below and we have our meeting recorded archived in Elluminate.  You can access that recording by clicking this link – MEETING 092811.  We are almost a third of the way through the course, the time is speeding by.

Group meeting 9/21/11 & Reflection

Our team communicated through email this week and did a quick phone/text check tonight to make sure everything was done and that we were satisfied with our Content Lesson 1 and Moderation Grade/Feedback Form. We were all very pleased with our collaboration, teamwork and final product. Each of us brings something special to the "digital" table creating a well balanced meal. We compliment each other well and I am grateful for my team. If it were not for new developing technology I would not have met these two incredible colleagues and call them friend.

Dan Ciernia Lesson 1 Reflections

Our efforts as Team 1 in ETC647 in this first couple of weeks have been rewarding and successful.  I have excellent team mates in Barb and John.  Barb and I have teamed together before in ETC 677 and we have transitioned smoothly into ETC647.  The addition of John to the team has been great, excellent fit!

I believe we have done some pretty good work on the Lesson 1 Content Development. We collaborated in a Google doc, adding our input, information, data and sources. We made regular use of Elluminate to meet, at least once a week, sometimes twice.  These meetings along with email and a phone call or two allowed us to proceed productively and creatively.  I agree with my team mates in that this was a fairly challenging assignment with the vast amount of data and sources we reviewed.  We all utilized our strengths in producing the final lesson 1 product.

Our discussion forum moderation duties were handled by each of us rotating on a 3/4/3/4/3 rotation.  There was active participation and discussion by our classmates  during this period and we had a good balance in moderating the topics and facilitating useful and productive discussion.  We all did Wordle’s and summaries of our sessions.

We implemented the learner to learner strategy in our discussions and the collaborative chapter 1. Individually we produced our PLE’s and I have to say I gained a clearer understanding of the PLE and appreciation for the organization it facilitates.  He PLE diagram was a good visual snapshot of my current PLE, that most likely will be fluid throughout the semester.

The Blog is something I have not used a lot, but so far so good, we’ll see.

Using the blog as our tool for communicating the summaries of our group meetings is helpful as they are all in one central space and we can make comments as needed and add to the blog. We also are communicating via email and Elluminate.

Group 1 Lesson 1 Reflections

Group 1 has a great team ethic. We are working well together, thinking of each other’s strengths and helping in the areas that need growth. Dan and I worked in a team together last semester so we are acquainted with the way each other thinks and works, John joined us this semester and has seamlessly fit in.

The team work of which we are very proud of is the Lesson 1 Content Development. We worked together in a Google doc, each adding to it. We met twice to discuss the content and how we wanted it to flow. This was also a challenging piece as it has so much content and we really wanted it to make sense to our colleagues. Dan is our resident expert in graphics so he took the lead on that, I am strong with APA and proofreading, John added some good content and did his first Wordle for the conclusion. We all wrote the body of the paper so it is truly a collaborative paper.

We also worked well together in moderating the discussion forum. We each took a session and did a summary for it. We divided the Wordles as one for each week and had the summaries for each session. We were all active with our comments and watching the direction of the discussions. It was a good experience for all.

The strategies we worked with were the learner to learner and the collaborative paper. We took information from the discussion forum to add to our Content Development. We also designed our own PLE and that was a fairly new concept even though Dan and I had that in ETC677, John didn’t. I think the PLE is more dynamic this time around and I have used it extensively already. With our readings and the ONLE, the PLE makes more sense now. Doing the PLE diagram was a great way of “seeing” the connections that are in my network. Connectivity actually is very relevant in the way I work, learn, teach and communicate in my everyday life. Until you actually think about all the connections there are in your “network”, you don’t realize how connected you are to so many people and networks.

Using the blog as our tool for communicating the summaries of our group meetings is helpful as they are all in one central space and we can make comments as needed and add to the blog. We also are communicating via email and Elluminate.

Group meeting 9/17/11

We decided to meet this Saturday on Elluminate to work together and be sure the Lesson 1 Content Development was well on it's way and tweak and discuss changes. It is pretty much finished thanks to all the group members with the contributions to the outline on Google docs after the first meeting of the group. Barb is tweaking APA  and proofreading, John is adding the Wordle (his first one), Dan is finishing up the conclusions and formatting the WetPaint Wiki page with graphics. Dan will export the Google doc to the WetPaint. We will all take a final look at the final Wet Paint wiki page tomorrow and tweak as necessary. We are not sure how the Google doc will export with all the formatting in it.

John will post a summary to the discussion board for the 3rd session and Dan will post the 4th session summary and 2nd week Wordle. Barb will post the Group Blog reflection for Lesson 1.

Group Meeting Agenda and Summary 9/8/11

This evening we recapped last night's meeting for Dan and discussed the outline started on Google docs for the Lesson 1 Content Development. We got the ok from Chih to go ahead and make a collaborative document with all 3 as authors rather than making separate sections with each authoring the sections. We will post resources on Delicious under tags of ETC647+Lesson1+ Fall +2011 to review each others contributions. Then we will put them under the correct tags for the lesson when we decide which ones we will use. We will each add to the content outline and start writing as we gather information. We decided the basic outline thus far has appropriate topics so we need to flesh it out.

We will be passing the discussion board to me tomorrow. Dan will post a short summary of the discussion so far as well as a reminder to change the subject in the subject header for posts. We decided to make a Wordle for each week along with the summary. The final summary will include the second Wordle.

We also discussed the difference between the more linear Nabble discussion board and the threaded BB Vista discussion board. We came to a consensus that the BB Vista threaded was easier to navigate as far as seeing at a glance which threads went the parent post.

We will meet next week at 7:00 Wednesday.

Group Meeting Agenda and Summary 9/7/11

1.      How is discussion going?  Discussion is going well, we have a lot of interesting posts and all seem to be on topic. One concern is that the subject headers are not always being updated to the content in the post. It a requirement now so a reminder should be made.

2.      Do we need a second question? Wait and see? We will wait and see, a possible question could be “how are you using the your PLE and what importance do you think it will have on your learning?” Another direction is to see anyone brings up how connectivity theory and the other learning theories interconnect or scaffold.

3.      How do we want to structure our Lesson 1 content? What are our objectives/topics? What content do we want to target?  We were thinking of having one document as a collaborative document in Google with topic headings written and edited by all of us. Topics include connectivity, ONLE/NLE/PLE/ half life of information, address the discussions relating to our questions but also adding in good references as well. Use the Wordle as the conclusion of the document. Listen to the Elluminate recording as we were thinking out loud. John will post the link. We will email Chih to see if this format will be ok.

4.      Do we divide it into 3 sections? Include Wordle arts as 1 section? See above

5.      Look at requirements.  We will review them as we go along to be sure we are covering all the points.

6.      Discuss team blog at next week’s meeting.  We will discuss the reflection blog next week.

7.      We meet at 7:00p next Wed.
