Dan Ciernia Lesson 1 Reflections

Our efforts as Team 1 in ETC647 in this first couple of weeks have been rewarding and successful.  I have excellent team mates in Barb and John.  Barb and I have teamed together before in ETC 677 and we have transitioned smoothly into ETC647.  The addition of John to the team has been great, excellent fit!

I believe we have done some pretty good work on the Lesson 1 Content Development. We collaborated in a Google doc, adding our input, information, data and sources. We made regular use of Elluminate to meet, at least once a week, sometimes twice.  These meetings along with email and a phone call or two allowed us to proceed productively and creatively.  I agree with my team mates in that this was a fairly challenging assignment with the vast amount of data and sources we reviewed.  We all utilized our strengths in producing the final lesson 1 product.

Our discussion forum moderation duties were handled by each of us rotating on a 3/4/3/4/3 rotation.  There was active participation and discussion by our classmates  during this period and we had a good balance in moderating the topics and facilitating useful and productive discussion.  We all did Wordle’s and summaries of our sessions.

We implemented the learner to learner strategy in our discussions and the collaborative chapter 1. Individually we produced our PLE’s and I have to say I gained a clearer understanding of the PLE and appreciation for the organization it facilitates.  He PLE diagram was a good visual snapshot of my current PLE, that most likely will be fluid throughout the semester.

The Blog is something I have not used a lot, but so far so good, we’ll see.

Using the blog as our tool for communicating the summaries of our group meetings is helpful as they are all in one central space and we can make comments as needed and add to the blog. We also are communicating via email and Elluminate.

  1. Thanks for sharing your group reflection in the group blog!

I agree you have an excellent group to work with.

I like that your group integrate blog as a team space for communication, information sharing, and interaction etc. I encourage your group to turn the team blog into a ONLE for your own group so group members can visit it on regular basis. Your team can add various gadgets to make the blog containing richer and live feed information. The example would be like our course blog: http://etc647.blogspot.com/. It contains almost all our course interaction, communications.

Web 2.0 tools are very flexible. Frequently people use them in non-traditional ways. That is the beauty of Web 2.0 technologies. We are different but we have things in common and work together as a community.

PLE, ONLE, and Connectivism are just pure technology impact to human learning; it is referred to our attitude toward to technology and learning. If we apply our learning paradigm to understand how PLE, ONLE, and Connectivism work, it is extremely difficult to understand how people learn with new network technologies. Perhaps that is reason why we have difficulty to understand how younger generations learn, how they use network technologies, and why they them.

Remember the keys of PLE and ONLE: Learners create content; organize content; and share content.

Give the blog a try!! I think you will learn something for it for different use. You can share your blog experiences with me later. OK?! :-)
